In this instance, all participants (100%) cited a lack of awareness about the specialty among pre-graduate medical students as a reason. This was followed by 36% who mentioned the need for cross-disciplinary knowledge in physics, and 34% who noted challenges related to balancing work in public and private healthcare sectors and job opportunities.

This part has two questions: How do you think we could make our specialty more attractive? Select up to three options. (Figure 1B)
The most voted answer (90%) was to add training during the medical degree, followed by emphasizing that it is a medical-surgical specialty and by greater involvement in activities among pre-graduate medical students (68% for each option).
How do you think the residency could be improved to attract more MIRs? Select up to three options. (Figure 1C)
In this case, increasing inter-hospital training activities (72%) was the most widely selected answer, followed by facilitating external rotations (54%) and extending the residency to 5 years (50%).
