Conclusion:

When facing a challenging area for Stereotactic Ablative Radiotherapy in the heart, it is possible to adopt a different approach, especially to large or critical areas generating ventricular tachycardia. Depending on the site and size of the arrhythmogenic focus, treating a reduced volume can isolate other arrhythmogenic foci and effectively control the ventricular tachycardia while ensuring the safe delivery of STAR.

Introducing automated safety barriers into radiotherapy workflow

Purpose/Objective:

Checking certain radiotherapy treatment parameters stored in Record and Verify (R&V) systems is a good practice to detect and correct manual input errors prior to treatment start. We present here our workflow integrated developed solution to detect these critical errors instantly and with total accuracy.

Material/Methods:

A software, developed in Python, is able to retrieve information stored in R&V database through queries to the SQL Server. The software can be installed on any computer connected to radiotherapy network and it needs SQL Server authentication credentials and IP. When the connection is stablished, is able to read any desired variable stored in the database through SQL queries in the R&V own language. Then, it can check if its value is as expected. It has been implemented for Mosaiq but the methodology is applicable to other SQL based R&V systems as Aria. A specific set of test has been designed to check several key treatment parameters and rely on human processes. The test and its possible results are shown in Table 1.

If the result is ‘OK’ the test is satisfied, if it is ‘ERROR’ there is something that needs to be corrected and ‘WARNING’ means something needs to be manually checked as it may be or not correct.

Table 1 Illustration of the set of test performed by the software and their possible results.
