Purpose/Objective:

Prostate cancer survivors experience treatment-related physical side effects that can impair emotional well-being for years after treatment, various fears about their health, anxiety, and frequent insomnia are common and require treatment. So the aim of the study was using a supplement based of GABA (SBGA) and lemon balm useful for relaxation and normal mood during RT to evaluate the results.

Material/Methods:

From October 2022 to September 2023, 49 pts. suffering from prostatic cancer were enrolled in the following prospective study: radiotherapy on the prostate with a dosage of 2.7 up to 70.2 Gy simultaneously using a supplement based of GABA (SBGA) and lemon balm useful for relaxation and normal mood. The study involved taking the supplement five days before the centering CT scan and during the entire radiotherapy treatment period. Of the 49 patients, 8 (16.3%) were excluded because three already had ongoing antidepressant therapy and 5 because they refused (mandatory informed consent), 12 patients (24.4%) took SBGA only for the days preceding the centering CT scan while 29 pts. (59.1%) continued taking it until the end of treatment (TSBG). For this reason the pts. were divided into two groups: 12 pts. who underwent centering CT therapy; 29 pts. who underwent therapy for the entire treatment. Before taking the supplements, the pts. underwent a clinical psychological interview to evaluate both the impact of the disease on each of them and the degree of motivation for the treatment. During the interview, various fears regarding their health status, states of anxiety and frequent insomnia emerged.

Results:

:After a month from taking the supplement at the end of RT, the pts. underwent the administration of the following tests:

• STAY-Y1-State Anxiety (for assessing the current state of anxiety); Range 40-50: mild, 51-60: moderate, > 60 severe form
