INTERDISCIPLINARY RADIOBIOLOGY CLINICAL BRACHYTHERAPY PHYSICS RTT YOUNG

SUNDAY 22 APRIL 2018

7 to 9 fractions as well as with extreme hypofractionations using 2 to 4 fractions. Dr Agoston reports the early biochemical control and toxicity results of the first randomized trial comparing LDR seed versus single-fraction HDR monotherapy. Chair: C. Polgár (Hungary) Co-Chair: L. Tagliaferri (Italy) 14:30 > Differences in dosimetry, treatment planning, and equieffective dose Speaker: A. Haworth (Australia) 14:48 > Long-term results of LDR seed monotherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer Speaker: S. Machtens (Germany) 15:06 > Long-term results of HDR monotherapy in the treatment of prostate cancer Speaker: Y. Yoshioka (Japan) DEBATE The technological advancement in radiotherapy in the last decade was driven by economics, not clinical needs 14:30 - 15:45  | ROOM 112 Several clinical success stories would be unthinkable without technological progress, but frequently the argument is made that new technology does not need evaluation in trials because its superiority is obvious. Radiation oncology is much too complex to reduce quality of care to a technological question. However, alternative definitions of value beyond classical clinical endpoints exist and can be the driver of development, and a justification for technological advancement. With increasing complexity and investments, academia is naturally less in a position to drive developments and more responsible to bring new technology to fruition. An industry trying to further adoption of new technology, however, may overwhelm treatments with less prospect for profit. Chair: M. Alber (Germany) Co-Chair: H.S. Rønde (Denmark) 15:24 > HDR brachytherapy in one fraction vs LDR brachytherapy in the treatment of localized prostate cancer. Early results Speaker: P. Agoston (Hungary), T. Major, K. Jorgo, G. Fröhlich, L. Gesztesi, G. Stelczer, C. Polgár
