SYMPOSIUM Implications of the ageing population for radiation oncology 11:00 - 12:15 | ROOM 116 Cancer as a disease is more prevalent in the elderly. Given the ageing population in Europe special consideration must be given as to how optimum treatment can be achieved in the context of increasing demands for the application of economic evidence and cost effectiveness. The evidence base supporting the application of new techniques, technologies and novel approaches when treating the elderly cancer patient will be discussed together with existing and new tools for monitoring and improving quality of life and informing the decision making process.

SYMPOSIUM Salvage prostate radiotherapy 11:00 - 12:15 | ROOM 111
New developments in imaging, such as mpMRI and PET, together with developments in brachytherapy and external beam radiotherapy (SBRT) have made local salvage treatments for recurrent prostate cancer after previous radiotherapy possible. Especially with mpMRI it is possible to identify an intraprostatic lesion that can be delineated for further treatment planning. However, careful assessment of post- radiotherapy changes of MR images is necessary to distinguish between effects of radiation on the images from recurrent intraprostatic relapse. Adequate patient selection is a key factor for success. As it is in the primary setting the use of androgen deprivation therapy is also a matter to be discussed. EBRT and brachytherapy have its similarities, but also differences. The considerations for treatments will be highlighted in perspective of the irradiation volumes and
